Charges Expected to be Filed in Robinson Scrap Metal Theft
More than 3/4 of a ton of metal taken from railroad property near Groveton Boat Club.
A special agent for CSX Corp. is expected to file charges against the persons involved in stealing more than 1,900 pounds of scrap metal from railroad property in the vicinity of the Groveton Boat Club on Royal Avenue.
On April 23 at about 10:58 p.m., Robinson Township police responded to a report of people in a tan minivan possible stealing scrap metal from a pile on the site near the Ohio River. When the van passed the police car en route to the scene, the officer initiated a traffic stop.
According to a police report, the officer found several hundred pounds of steel plate on the floor of the van. The driver, a 41-year-old woman from Ambridge, admitted to just taking the metal.

A CXS agent who arrived on the scene agreed to file charges in connection with the incident. In addition to the woman, two 19-year-old men from Aliquippa and a 29-year-old woman from Ambridge were in the van.
A witness told police the same group had taken metal from the site the previous day as well. The driver told police that she sold the metal at Iron City Steel in Crescent Township.

Police contacted the scrap yard and found the woman had sold 580 pounds of metal for $68.15 earlier in the day. On April 22, she also sold 880 pounds for $103.40 and 457 pounds for $53.70 to Iron City.
