Allegheny County Fire Marshal Investigates Moon Apartment Fire

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of an apartment fire that started Saturday in a residence at the Colony West Apartments.

Assistant Fire Chief Douglas Busch said firefighters arrived shortly after 6 p.m. to the 600 building and contained the fire to a bedroom in the bottom-floor apartment. The cause remains undetermined, he said.

The resident, whose name was unavailable, was not home at the time the fire broke out, but next door neighbor Jackie Klentzin was.

Klentzin said she left her apartment to investigate after hearing a sound and discovered a smoke-filled hallway. She called 911 and was told to evacuate the building, so Klentzin pulled the fire alarm and got out.

Residents praised the Moon Volunteer Fire Department for a quick response.

Busch said the building suffered smoke damage throughout. No one was injured.
