Moon Obituaries: West Hills Artist, World War II Vets Remembered

Lewis C. Schneider

Lewis C. Schneider, 86, of Coraopolis and Moon Township died April 1 with his family at his side. Born in Coraopolis he was a charter member of and a World War II veteran. He was a retired ramp agent for TWA Airlines.

He was the husband of the late Mary Jane Aruba Schneider and is survived by daughters Joyce Grater and Lorraine Casciato and four grandchildren.

Services were yesterday. Interment was at Coraopolis Cemetery with full military honors.

Edward J. McCarriher

Edward J. McCarriher Sr., 77, of Moon Township, died March 26. Born in Sewickley, he was the husband of the late Marietta Millie McCarriher and the loving father of Edward J. McCarriher, John Cummings and Michael Cummings and a grandfather of five.

McCarriher worked as a commercial artist for 28 years with Service Engraving Co. and with U.S. Airways. He was a member of  and the West Hills Art League

Services were earlier this month, and interment was at Coraopolis Cemetery.

John E. Komar

John E. Komar, 90, of Moon Township, died with his wife by his side on March 25. Born in Aliquippa, Komar was employed for 39 years at LTV Steel as a line and wire man. He was in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.

Komar was a member of in Moon. His wife of 41 years, Florence Sabol Komar, and his sister and many nieces and nephews survive him.

Services were earlier this month. Interment was at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.

Edward L. Springer 

Edward L. Springer, 63, of Moon Township, died March 25 surrounded by loved ones.

He is survived by his sisters, Norma Bates and Colleen Ray, and nine nieces and nephews.

Springer was a graduate of , class of 1966, and received his master’s degree in special education from Slippery Rock University. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Services were last month through in Moon Township.

Samuel Charles Yahres 

Samuel Charles Yahres, 92, of Coraopolis, died March 25. He was born in Etna and was a veteran of World War II.

Yahres was the chairman of music education at Duquesne University for more than 24 years. He is survived by his wife for 63 years, Marianne Ellis  Yahres, and children Barbara Allen, Samuel Yahres, Charles Yahres and Marianne Fusco; and six grandchildren.

Services were last month at in Moon. There was a private interment at Allegheny County Memorial Park.

Stan Kuiken

Stan Kuiken, 83, of Moon Townshp, died March 30 in his home. He was born in New Jersey and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He later became the chief flight mechanic for PPG Industries. 

Kuiken was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid outdoorsmen. His wife of 57 years, Margaret Thiessen Kuiken; five children, Carol Steele, Lorna Tarquinio, Elain Tarquinio, John Kuiken and Mike Kuiken; and 14 grandchildren survive him.

Services were earlier this month. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Buffalo Field Campaign.
