Merlyn A. “Mernie” Deyak

Merlyn A. “Mernie” Deyak, 83, of Moon, died Jan. 20. Born on Oct. 10, 1928, in Robinson, she was the wife of the late John J. Deyak.

There will be no public visitation, and arrangements will be private and conducted through on Coraopolis Heights Road.

Walter E. Rogers

Walter E. Rogers, 78, of Moon, died Jan. 24. Born in Atlanta, GA, he was the husband of Olevia Batiste Rogers and the father of Col. Darryl E. Rogers and Emily E. Rogers. He had four grandchildren.

Rogers served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Coraopolis and was employed as an Aviation Safety Inspector for Flight Standards by the Federal Aviation Administration. In June 2011, he received the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award for serving 50 consecutive years in aviation.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at on Brodhead Road. The 82nd Airborne Group will perform a service, and arrangements will be transferred to a funeral home in Georgia.

Julia C. Hogue

Julia C. Hogue, 97, of Crescent, died Jan. 21 at Heritage Valley Sewickley Hospital. She was the wife of the late Charles F. Hogue, a member of the St. Catherine of Siena Church, the Civic Club and the Crescent Township Historical Society.

She enjoyed bowling, gardening and working in her yard. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, niece, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was earlier this week at Copeland Funeral Home on Brodhead Road. There will be a 10 a.m. Mass today at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Interment will be at Sylvania Hills.

Johnston “Jack” M. Hinkley

Johnston “Jack” M. Hinkley, 94, of Moon, died Jan. 20 at Sewickley Valley Hospital. He was born in 1917 in Pittsburgh and was married for 64 years to Doreen Ewart Hinkley. He was the father of William A. Hinkley and the late Patricia H. Olglesbee. He had five grandchildren.

Hinkley was an active member of the and former member of the Moon Township Lions Club. He was a founder and president emeritus of Ships and Bottles Association of America.  He retired from Northwest Airlines in 1982 and was a 1935 graduate of Dormont High School.

Visitation and services were earlier this week through Copeland Funeral Home on Brodhead Road. 

Edith L. Lansberry Bailey

Edith L. Lansberry Bailey, 84, of Crescent, died Jan. 19. She was born in Bishtown, PA, and was married for 66 years to Jack W. Bailey. She was the mother of Jack W. Bailey of Moon and a grandmother of two.

Services were earlier this month at Copeland Funeral Home. Interment was at Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
