The flight departs and returns to Pittsburgh and Nashville on weekdays.

Southwest Airlines has launched new daily nonstop departures at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT), with the first flight at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and the Allegheny County Airport Authority celebrated with a news conference at the airlines gate just prior to take-off.

The theme of the event was "bridging connections" and included a launch party featuring country music, an array of Nashville "music city" related snacks and tourism information.

In Nashville, a similar launch party with the theme of "Pittsburgh Oktoberfest" event included Pittsburgh polka music, regional tourism information and Pittsburgh promotional items.

Flights can be booked at southwest.com. The flight departs Pittsburgh at 7:55 a.m. and arrives in Nashville 8:50 a.m. on weekdays. The return departure from Nashville is 5:30 p.m., arriving at Pittsburgh at 7:55 p.m.

At Pittsburgh International Airport, Southwest and AirTran serves 12 routes in addition to Nashville: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago Midway, Denver, Ft. Lauderdale,  Ft. Myers, Houston Hobby, Las Vegas, Orlando, Phoenix, Tampa, and West Palm Beach (seasonally). Combined, both airlines average about 27 flights per day.
