MOON AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CONVENE COMMUNITY MEETING ON SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY

A parent / community meeting to
discuss school safety and security will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014,
from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Moon Area High School Large Group Instruction
room.

Parents/guardians
of Moon Area School District (“MASD”) students in all grade levels – as well as
community members who live in Moon and Crescent Townships – are strongly
encouraged to attend this important session.

The meeting
is part of an extensive review of safety, security, and crisis preparedness in
MASD schools that will be performed by a team of experts led by Ken Trump, a
nationally recognized leader in school security.

MASD
Superintendent Curt Baker emphasized that “the primary goal of the session is
to listen to and learn from parents and community members.  It is an opportunity to voice concerns, ask
questions, offer praise, and share perspectives.  The information gathered at this meeting is
an important part of the overall review process.”

In addition,
Mr. Trump and his team will provide an overview of national trends in school
safety.

The Moon
Area School Board voted to engage Mr. Trump and his team earlier this month.

“Providing a
safe and secure environment for teaching and learning is our top priority,”
said MASD Superintendent Curt Baker.  “It
is important that we incorporate best practices in the design of our buildings,
in our day-to-day security procedures, and in our emergency response protocols.”
