Moon Area School District - Round Table Discussion - Elementary Capital Improvement Program

For more than 18 months, the Moon Area School Board has been evaluating options and alternatives for an Elementary Capital Improvement Program (ECIP).

On March 10, 2014, the Board held a well-attended Public Hearing to receive community input on the possibility of closing one or more of our elementary schools.

The Public Hearing, which was required by PA law, marked the start of a three month "period of contemplation," during which time the School Board cannot (and will not) make any final decisions.  Tentatively, a vote to define the path forward is scheduled for Monday, June 23, 2014.

In order to further the community dialog, Superintendent Curt Baker is convening a series of ten (10) roundtable discussions to gather additional community input regarding the ECIP for use by the School Board in its deliberations.

It is expected that the topics discussed will include, but not be limited to, redistricting, grade-level configuration, the number of elementary schools the District should have and/or can afford, and the financial cost of the program and its implications for taxpayers.

All community comments during each of the 10 roundtable discussions will be captured.  A comprehensive report will be delivered to the Board on or before Friday, June 6.

The hope is to maximize the number of individuals providing feedback.  Consequently, it is asked that interested community members attend just one of the roundtable discussions.  All ten sessions will follow the same agenda and be conducted in the same manner.
