Woman, Man Face Charges After Traffic Accident in Robinson

Suram Long, 33, of Pittsburgh is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, required financial responsibility, careless driving and restrictions on alcoholic beverages after an accident at 3:26 a.m. April 20 in the 4300 block of Steubenville Pike.

Police arrived at the scene and found wires and support cables down and a utility pole leaning toward the roadway. Long, the driver, didn't recall details of the accident, according to a police report.

Police detected a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and found an open bottle of vodka in the car. She failed field sobriety tests. A blood test was conducted at Sewickley Valley Hospital and submitted to the Allegheny County Crime Lab for analysis.

A passenger in the car, Sean Lee, 31, of Pittsburgh also faces charges of prohibited acts, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Police located three plastic bags of suspected marijuana in his pants pocket.

Both Long and Lee face hearings at 10 a.m. June 4 before District Judge Carla M. Swearingen.

  • While on patrol at 10:32 a.m. April 26 in the 4800 block of Steubenville Pike, an officer ran a registration on a Honda Accord that came back with a "dead" license plate out of Hookstown. The officer found the vehicle at the Econolodge. Robert Ray Beiter of Greenville told police he got the plate from a friend and admitted he had no insurance. He also was driving with a suspended license. Beiter also told police he had five needles in his pocket and police retrieved small cotton balls from the car. He faces charges of prohibited acts, registration and certificate of title required, unauthorized transfer or use of registration, driving while operating privilege suspended, required financial responsibility, and windshield obstructions and wipers but no date has been set for a preliminary hearing.
  • Daniel Oneal, 32, of Corpus Christi, TX was held for court on charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after a preliminary hearing April 30 before District Judge Carla M. Swearingen. Oneal was a passenger in a car who used profanity and began to yell at police as the car's driver was being given field sobriety tests by Robinson police. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail for arraignment as he was from out of state, driving with a New York license and told police he was leaving town. He faces a preliminary arraignment in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court on June 19.
  • Joseph Michael Vermeulen, 24, of New Brighton is charged with prohibited acts and faces a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. June 4 in district court. According to a police report, an officer spotted a car with expired inspection stickers as it pulled out from Aiken Road at 4:49 a.m. April 20. The passenger, Vermeulen, began making furtive movements. As he exited the vehicle, police saw a syringe and spoon, commonly used to inject heroin, laying next to the passenger seat. No other contraband was located in the car.
