Traffic Delays Expected on Interstate 79

Motorists should be prepared for travel interruption.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 79 through nearby Robinson and Kennedy townships should brace themselves for frequent traffic delays this week.

Traffic on  I-79 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction through Friday, according to a PennDOT statement. Slowed traffic and delays are expected.

Road crews are installing guide rail and pavement markers along the portion of interstate. Motorists can expect single-lane traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the Neville Island Bridge and the Crafton/Route 60 interchange. There will be overnight restrictions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Thursday.

The construction is a part of a $4.3 million project started last year that includes milling and resurfacing and bridge rehabilitation.

Lindy Paving of New Castle is the primary contractor on the project, which is expected to be completed in several weeks.
