This weekend Moon hosted the American Cancer Society's largest annual fundraiser, the Relay for Life. 

The event, held at 's Joe Walton Stadium, drew nearly 400 people.  The relay features teams walking for a 24-hour period to raise money for cancer-treatment research.

 residents and the operators of a group home slated to open on their street soon may take part in formal mediation.

The Moon Board of Supervisors this week agreed to provide mediation between Greenlea Drive residents and mental health care provider Transitional Services Inc., which plans to open a shared residence for the mentally ill on the street. 

Adam McGurk, Moon Township's assistant manager and planning director, will leave his position at the end of the month. 

McGurk, who has worked for the township since 2007, told the Moon Board of Supervisors that he plans to move to New York City with his wife, whose job with American Eagle Outfitters has been relocated. He has not accepted another position. His last day of work with the township will be April 29. 

With construction season upon us, the  and state police are warning motorists to slow down and pay attention when driving through work zones.

While speaking Monday near a construction zone along Route 28 in Pittsburgh, PennDOT District 11 Executive Director Dan Cessna said drivers must follow posted speed limits, turn on headlights and avoid distractions.

PennDOT's District 11, which oversees work in Allegheny, Beaver and Lawrence counties, expects to spend $216 million this year on road and bridge improvements in Allegheny County. Cessna urged motorists to be flexible as traffic patterns change and commutes become longer.

Local PennDOT construction projects this summer include: 

  •  A $1.5 million bridge preservation project that will begin this spring and continue into the fall on the Interstate 376 Business Route bridge over Campbell's Run Road. Drivers should expect minor delays during construction. 
  • Crews will be performing minor repairs to complete the ongoing $20.8 million project to improve the Interstate 79 Neville Island Bridge and Route 65 interchange through Neville and Robinson townships.
