Update: Route 51 Bridge Closes for the Weekend

Crews will be performing restoration work on the bridge, which carries Route 51 over Montour Run.

Update: Work on the project for this weekend has now been cancelled, according to a PennDOT statement this afternoon. Work will resume at a later date. Check back with Patch for more information. 

The bridge that carries Route 51 over Montour Run in Moon and Robinson townships will be shuttered this weekend while roadcrews perform repairs. 

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that the bridge, located on Route 51 or Coraopolis Road between Lewis Avenue and Ewing Street, will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday.

Crews will perform concrete substructure repairs and expansion dam replacements if the weather permits, according to PennDOT. 

Work on the $1.8 million restoration project will continue through the summer. Motorists should expect delays and changing traffic patterns on the roadway. The prime contractor on the project is the Pittsburgh-based Lane Construction.

Signs will be posted to guide motorists. 

Suggeted detours through the area include: 

• In Stowe, make right onto Neville Road to Neville Island
• Continue west on Neville Road to Grand Avenue
• Follow Grand Avenue back across Ohio River
• End detour at Route 51/4th Avenue
• Note: Northbound traffic will still be able to access I-79
From north traveling south
• Same detour in opposite direction
