Update: Schools Delayed, Sleet and Freezing Rain on the Way

Update: The Moon Area and Montour school districts will operate under a two-hour delay today. 

Robert Morris University will also operate under a delay—classes at the university will begin at 10 a.m. today. 

The National Weather service in Moon Township has issued a winter weather advisory from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday for most of Western Pennsylvania, including the Moon and Robinson area.

A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected overnight into Monday morning. Because very cold ground and snow pack, roads and sidewalks are expected to be icy.

Areas of freezing rain and mixed precipitation will transition to all rain later Monday.

Ice accumulation of up to about a 10th of an inch is possible.

Here is a more detailed look at the forecast:

• Monday: Freezing rain before 11am, then rain. High near 43. Southwest wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Monday Night: Showers likely, mainly before 7pm. Areas of fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a temperature rising to around 47 by 4am. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

• Tuesday: A chance of showers. Areas of fog before 8am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Southwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
