Man Charged with Hyatt Hotel Stabbing Sentenced to Prison

Michael Furman pleaded guilty to stabbing a woman last year at the Hyatt Regency hotel at Pittsburgh International Airport

A West Virginia man accused of stabbing a newlywed at the Hyatt Regency hotel at Pittsburgh International Airport has been sentenced to spend eight to 16 years in prision, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune Review

Michael Furman, 29, of Weirton, pleaded guilty earlier this month to aggravated assault, robbery and unlawful restraint. Allegheny County Police said Furman last January followed a 27-year-old East Pittsburgh woman onto an elevator at the hotel and her in the leg. 

The woman, who had been married just days before, said Furman engaged her in small talk before pushing her against the wall of the elevator, when he lifted her leg and stabbed her in her hamstring. She was able to escape the elevator and run to her hotel room.

The woman was treated and released that night from Heritage Valley Hospital for the single-puncture wound. 

Police said Furman has an extensive criminal record, including past convictions for burlary and theft.
