JetBlue Adds Fourth Flight from Pittsburgh International Airport to Boston

The fourth flight service launched Wednesday.

JetBlue Airways launched its fourth daily non-stop flight Wednesday from Pittsburgh International Airport to Boston Logan Airport.

County officials say the average fare from Pittsburgh to Boston has dropped significantly, and some of the credit is attributed to JetBlue Airways, which has committed to offering additional flights here.

With Boston being one of southwest Pennsylvania’s largest business markets and is also a popular destination for leisure travel, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, business leaders and the Allegheny County Airport Authority board and staff made a strong plea to the airline industry to provide more direct flights to and from the airport.

As part of that effort, the authority conducted an economic impact study in 2011 of low-cost carriers and the study demonstrated how lower fares from airlines such as JetBlue have a direct impact on increasing passenger numbers.

A higher number of travelers results in a competitive route and enhances the economic activity of the Pittsburgh region through tourism, commerce and more jobs, the study showed.
