Get Out: Fireworks, Family Fishing or 5K

When/Where: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, , Sewickley Heights.

Why Go: Spend quality family time fishing for bass, carp and more at Soggy Bottom. Certified fishing skills instructors will be on hand, and all necessary equipment will be provided.

Price: $15 per fisherman and $5 for accompanying adult. Registration is required.


2. MOON TOWNSHIP 5K RUN/WALK

When/Where: 9 a.m. Saturday at Greater Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Associates, Moon Township.

Why Go: Go get some exercise with family or friends at third annual 5K event. If you’re not participating, cheer on those who are this Independence Day weekend.

Price: Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. and is $25. More information is available at www.moonparks.org.


3. HOLA AMIGOS!

When/Where: 2 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at 

Why Go: Bring your children ages 2-5 to learn a little español. The class will teach the bambinos Spanish stories, songs and more.

Price: Free. Please register.


4. PITTSBURGH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

When/Where: 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater, Hartwood Acres

Why Go: Spend Sunday evening at a free outdoor concert. There will even be musical fireworks to celebrate on the eve of Independence Day.

Price: Free.

When/Where: 2 p.m.  Monday on Beaver Street in .

Why Go: It’s time to celebrate Independence Day the best way the locals know how — with family, food and friends at Henle Park. The festivities start in the morning with a 2 p.m. break for the annual parade, followed by live music, food and fun. The day ends after dark with Zambelli Fireworks.

Price: Free to attend.
