Flood Watch, Winter Storm Warning Issued for Allegheny County

National Weather Service warns residents of possible inclement weather.

Residents will have to wait a little bit longer for spring-like weather in the region: Another winter storm is on the way.

The  in Moon has issued both a winter storm watch and flood warning for Allegheny County today.

The flood warning will expire this afternoon, while the winter storm watch remains in effect until Friday evening.

The weather service said lingering pockets of freezing rain will end as temperatures climb above freezing this evening, but the rain will change to snow tonight. 

Heavy snow -- six inches or more -- is expected between this evening and Friday evening, according to the announcement.

The Friday morning commute is expected to be difficult and power outages are possible, the weather service said.

A winter storm watch means there is the potential for snow accumulation of more than six inches.

The Ohio River at Point State Park is expected to rise above 22 feet Thursday afternoon, flooding the 10th Street Bypass, the weather service said.

The flood stage for the river is 25 feet and the National Weather Service is predicting it will rise to near 26.8 feet Friday evening. As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, the stage was 19.5 feet, the weather service said.
