Five Things You Need to Know This Week

A rundown of the week's soon-to-be big stories and upcoming events for Monday, May 23.

1. Moon Area School Board meets tonight

The will meet at 6 tonight in the high school meeting room for its monthly workshop session. 

The board is expected to vote on its preliminary 2011-2012 budget, as well as approve several change orders related to the renovation of the new Moon Area Middle School.

2. Allard Elementary to hold talent show

Students at will take part in two talent show performances this week. Parents can check out the show at 1:30 and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the elementary school on Shafer Road.

3. Moon Board of Supervisors holds workshop meeting

The s will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the municipal building for its monthly workshop meeting. Check back with Patch Thursday morning for complete coverage.

The township's planning commission will also hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the municipal building. The Moon Township Municipal Authority will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Sky Room of the Moon

4. Moon-area sports events take place all week

Students can participate in cheerleading and dance team tryouts this week; varsity football practice is also scheduled. Click here for a complete list of spring sporting events.  

5. Moon Library helps residents plan estates

Representatives from will discuss upcoming changes to federal estate laws with residents at 6 p.m. Thursday at the .

The discussion is aimed at helping residents navigate the new laws and get started with long-term financial planning. The event is free, but those wishing to attend should register by calling 412-269-0334.
