Walmart Gets One of Two Building Permits

The store is still waiting for approval on a second building permit.

Workers have gotten the OK to begin work on , but they aren't allowed to finish it yet.

The city last month approved a building permit for the business' "empty shell," but has yet to improve the permit for its "tenant improvements."

Elk Grove spokeswoman Christine Brainerd said the approved permit is for just what it sounds like–the outer shell of the 148,119-square-foot store at Bruceville Road and Whitelock Parkway, but not what's inside.

She didn't have an estimate on when the second permit would be approved.

The company the store could open in spring of 2013.

Judy, here's what we reported on that in March: http://patch.com/A-rJCy "Walmart is appealing that decision, while meanwhile pushing ahead with a store that, while larger, will sell a smaller range of grocery items and will not be dubbed a supercenter. ... "In addition to a pharmacy and outdoor center, the proposed 148,200-square-foot store would sell products such as household goods, electronics, and limited grocery items including dry goods, dairy products and frozen foods." Could this new store be one of the main places you shop, or would you just visit occasionally?

I find it disappointing that it will not be a supercenter with full-blown groceries. It just ends up being a convenience store on steroids.

Despite how upset the community is about a 2nd Walmart, I feel we'll be shopping there anyway. It's hard not to when you want to save money and need something.

Cody, there is NO doubt, that I will be shopping there ALOT! I live within walking distance of this new store, and you can't beat Walmart prices. I just still wish that it could be a full blown Superstore*

It might as well be a super center, because we could use a full grocery store in this area
