A Moon Township-based insurance company recently eliminated positions with the layoffs of 26 employees.

Paula Symons, spokeswoman for QBE North America, said in an email statement that "due to market conditions," 26 positions were eliminated on July 18 at QBE’s Moon Township operation.

"Eliminating any positions is an extremely difficult decision, which QBE takes very seriously," Symons said.

Employees were offered severance and outplacement packages to make the transition as smooth as possible, she said.

Symons said QBE remains committed to the Moon facility, located off Business I-376 in the Airside Business Park.

About 320 QBE First employees remain at the Moon-based company.

QBE First provides hazard and flood insurance as well as other services for lenders, mortgage-servicing organizations and home builders.

Headquartered in New York, QBE North America is a subsidiary of Australia-based QBE Insurance Group Limited.
