Pittsburgh International Releases Travel Stats for 2011

Airlines Delta and USA 3000 saw increases in 2011 air traffic, while U.S. Airways and United were on the decline.

The number of travelers flying through Pittsburgh International Airport increased by 1.3 percent in 2011 from the previous year, according to new numbers that the Allegheny County Airport Authority released. 

More than 8.2 million passengers flew via the local airport last year compared to 8.1 million in 2010, marking the second consecutive year that air travel has increased at the airport. 

Seven airlines reported passenger increases in 2011 through Pittsburgh International:

  • USA 3000: 54.8 percent increase in traffic with 27,114 passengers flying. 
  • Air Canda: 17.3 percent increase with 47,380 passengers flying. 
  • Myrtle Beach Direct: 13.3 percent increase in traffic with 40,403 passengers flying. 
  • Continental: 12.4 percent increase with 577,754 passengers flying. 
  • Southwest: 5.3 percent increase with 1.5 million passengers flying.
  • Delta: 5.2 percent increase in traffic with 1.4 million passengers flying. 

Airlines that reported a decrease in traffic for 2011: 

  • Skywest: 41.2 percent decrease in passengers for the year with 42,541 flying. 
  • Frontier: 30.1 percent decrease in passengers for the year with 50,600 flying. 
  • United: 11.8 percent decrease in passengers for the year with 734,030 flying.
  • AirTran: 7.2 percent decrease with 788,062 in passengers for the year with 788,062 flying.
  • U.S. Airways: 2.6 percent decrease for the year with 2 million passengers flying.
