News Nearby: Bri-Chem Corp. Leases Leetsdale Warehouse

The 25-year-old company services the oil and gas drilling industry and is expanding in the United States.

A North American wholesale distributor and manufacturer of oil and gas drilling fluids, steel pipe and piping products has leased 38,000 square feet of warehouse space in Leetsdale Industrial Park, according to Chapman Properties, which manages the park.

Founded in Canada, Bri-Chem Corp., a 25-year-old company, is expanding its footprint in the United States in response to a growing opportunity to service the Utica Shale and Southern Marcellus Shale gas business, according to a news release.

Bri-Chem’s warehouse space is in Building 111, with a 213,000-square-foot heavy industrial rail and a steel frame and masonry façade. It was built in 1936 and renovated in 2007 and has a clear height of 24-31 feet.

Lane Bates, general manager of Bri-Chem Corp, said Leetsdale Industrial Park was selected after an intensive location search.

“We’re a fast-growing Canadian-based company that sees enormous opportunities for growth in the U.S. drilling fluids market. We chose Leetsdale Industrial Park because it provided us with a prime location and the resources we need to successfully service the Utica Shale and Southern Marcellus Shale gas business,” Bates said.

Bri-Chem selected the industrial park because of its location on the Ohio River and close proximity to crucial rail, truck and barge freight transportation options.

The immediate access gives Bri-Chem the ability to quickly and easily load and off-load railcars and barges to and from its warehouse for distribution of drilling fluid products and stimulation additives to the north-eastern U.S. oil and gas industry, according to a news release.

Bri-Chem was also drawn to Leetsdale because of its relationship with other gas industry tenants of LIP, including Integrity Industries, now a subsidiary of Weatherford International; LSDI -- a trucking and supply company for the industry; and Specialty Oilfield Solutions.

“Bri-Chem’s commitment to our park is another indicator of business growth in the Pittsburgh region spawned by the Utica and Marcellus Shale gas plays," said Steve Thomas, president of Chapman Properties.

During the past year, Chapman Properties have leased 130,000 square feet of warehouse and manufacturing space in the industrial park to four energy companies, all involved in natural gas production.
