Moon Giant Eagle Owners To Retire

The Romantine family transfers ownership to Giant Eagle Inc.

The local owners of Moon Township's grocery tomorrow will transfer  ownership of the supermarket to its namesake corporation.

Fred and Tina Romantine, who have operated the University Boulevard store under the Giant Eagle name since 1986, have announced their retirement. They will transfer all store operations to Giant Eagle Inc.

The Romantines, who reside in Moon, decided to retire to "spend more time with family and travel," according to a statement from a Giant Eagle spokesman.

The Romantines could not be reached for comment. A manager at the store declined to comment on the transfer.

The store will close early at 7 p.m. tonight and reopen at 7 a.m. tomorrow.

The store's 180 workers will continue to be employed at the corporate-owned store.

The Romantine's are quality people who supported not only Moon, but the surrounding communities as well. May they have a long, happy and healthy retirement!

I think it is great how they hired handicapped people.

I'm having trouble deciphering/accessing complete posts above. I have not been able to follow theRead More Boards meetings since relocating a year ago to TN. The fact that it took them til 3 am to ok WalMart's plans for the space, makes me think it was contentious, as it should have been. Many of us with experience of WalMart and the existing problems with traffic in the area remain appalled to hear WalMart's moving ahead.
