UPDATE: Hoss's Steak and Sea House to Close in Moon Township

The Beaver Grade Road restaurant goes out of business at the end of the week.

Hoss’s Steak and Sea House in Moon Township will close its doors on Sunday after 22 years in business.

Assistant manager Michael Hertzer Jr. said the Beaver Grade Road location will close at 9 p.m. Jan. 20.  The restaurant will operate at normal hours for the remainder of this week.

The chain eatery opened its Moon Township location in 1991, Hertzer said. He said he was unsure of the reason behind the closure, but said no other Hoss’s location is slated to close.

Hoss’s corporate office could not be reached for comment. The business operates 36 dining locations in Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The property has not yet been placed for sale.

Hertzer said 40 employees at the Moon Township location will be laid off with the closure, but the company has offered employees the option to transfer to other Hoss's locations.

Hoss's spokeswoman Bridget Chesnut said financial difficulties prompted the Moon Township location's closure.

"We did try different scenarios to bring in business, but we feel the closure is the best thing for the company," Chesnut said. "It's not something we wanted to do. We have an outstanding crew (at the Moon Township restaurant.)"

The manager doesn't know why? Transfer to other locations? Closest locations - Belle Vernon-43 miles, Greensburg- 50 miles and Murrysville-35 miles - yep, I'm sure they'll jump all over that option.

This is sad. Been a regular there since it opened. Had the opportunity to get to several of the employees. The really sad part is Hoss's ging the dedicated employees 5 days notice of the closure. I wonder how you Corp Executives sleep at night. I know the employees will have trouble sleeping. Wondering about where they are going to find jobs. Got to know some really wonderful people. We got treated like family and as one of the employees told me tonight, "I feel like I am losing a lot of family members". I want to thank all the employees for always making me feel welcome. Really going to miss you. Good luck to you all. T, E, K, and the others, good luck in the future. Love you all

This is very sad. My oldest son got his start with restaurant "serving" at Hoss's several years back and still to this day has fond memories. They have a dedicated staff in the Moon facility that deserved more than a 5 day notice. It seems anymore, employees are disposible. Thank you Moon Township Hoss's staff for a great 22 years!

Really ashame that Hoss's is closing. Always seemed like they had a decent business. Nice casual place for soup and salad. Sorry for the employees who have dedicated themselves to that place -- thank you.
