Traffic Alert: PennDOT Crews Have Busy Weekend Planned

See which roads and ramps will be closed or restricted before you head out this weekend.

Motorists from Robinson and Moon may be delayed by detours this weekend.

Below is a summary of the major closings and restrictions on some of the area's busiest roads and bridges. 

Fort Pitt/Fort Duquesne Bridge Ramps
The ramp that connects westbound I-376 to the outbound Fort Duquesne Bridge will be closed from 10 p.m. on Friday through approximately 5 a.m. on Monday. Traffic will be detoured using the West End. The ramp from Fort Pitt Bridge to the Fort Duquesne Bridge will remain open this weekend. The following additional restrictions will occur:

  • Fort Pitt Boulevard ramp to Fort Duquesne Bridge will be closed;
  • Ramp from Commonwealth Place to Fort Duquesne Bridge will be closed,
  • Southbound Fort Duquesne Bridge ramp to the outbound Fort Pitt Bridge will be restricted to a single lane. (Note: Restrictions will be implemented after traffic leaving Pirates game subsides Friday night.)

Parkway East (I-376)
Squirrel Hill Tunnel Rehabilitation
Traffic in the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel will be restricted to a single lane from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday night for tunnel rehabilitation work.

Grant Street Tunnel improvements
Inbound Parkway East will be closed between Grant Street and the Fort Pitt Bridge from 9 p.m. on Friday through approximately noon Saturday. Crews will be performing repairs in the tunnel that carries Grant Street over the parkway. The ramp from Grant Street to outbound I-376 will also be closed.

I-579/Crosstown Boulevard/Veterans Bridge
Ramp/bridge improvements
The southbound I-579 Veterans Bridge will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. Friday through approximately 6 a.m. on Monday for expansion dam replacement and resurfacing. In addition, the ramp from the inbound Liberty Bridge to northbound I-579 will be closed to allow crews to continue wall rehabilitation.  

Route 28
Wall construction
Inbound Route 28 will be reduced to a single lane from 8 p.m. on Friday through 5 p.m. on Saturday between the former Millvale Industrial Park location and the East Ohio Street exit. The right lane will be closed as crews continue wall construction.

The HOV lanes on the Parkway North are open to all outbound traffic on weekends after 7 p.m. on Friday and remain open until 5 a.m. on Mondays. In addition, the two passenger vehicle rule does not apply during weekend hours.
