Route 51 Bridge over Montour Run Long-Term Closure Postponed to Aug. 3 in Moon and Robinson

PennDOT District 11 is announcing the bridge that carries Route 51 (Coraopolis Road) over Montour Run in Moon and Robinson townships, Allegheny County, will be closed long-term Aug. 3-13 weather permitting.

The closure was originally scheduled to begin this Friday, July 27 has been postpone to August 3.  

Crews will be applying a latex overlay, paving and conducting repairs and painting that cannot occur with traffic on the bridge between Lewis Avenue and Ewing Street (north of I-79). The closure will occur from approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3 continuously through the morning of Monday, Aug. 13.  Route 51 will be open to the bridge location. Signs will be posted to guide motorists.

From south traveling north:

  • In Stowe, make right onto Neville Road to Neville Island
  • Continue west on Neville Road to Grand Avenue
  • Follow Grand Avenue back across Ohio River
  • End detour at Route 51/4th Avenue

Note: Northbound traffic will still be able to access I-79

From north traveling south:

  • Same detour in opposite direction

PennDOT warns that motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns and allow extra time when traveling through the area.  

The $1.8 million bridge preservation project includes expansion dam replacements, concrete substructure repairs, zone painting and other improvements. Overall work will conclude in late summer. The prime contractor is Lane Construction Corporation of Pittsburgh, PA.
