News Nearby: Cranberry Episode of 'Showhouse Showdown' to Air March 3

The show, which airs on HGTV, was filmed in August in the Mystic Ridge neighborhood.

Cranberry will be featured on television at the beginning of March, when the season premiere of "Showhouse Showdown" airs on HGTV.

In each episode, two professional interior designers take over two newly built houses with mirror-image floor plans. The designers will compete head-to-head, creating five signature rooms in each house using identical budgets and on the same schedule.

Keeping the stakes high and the designers on track will be host Bob Guiney, from ABC’s "The Bachelor." In the end, there is an open house, and one designer will be crowned the winner based on the votes that area residents cast.

HGTV and Stone & Co. Entertainment partnered with Heartland Homes in August to film an episode at the Mystic Ridge development in Cranberry Township. The show also filmed in September in the Edgewater at Oakmont neighborhood.

It is one of a series of shows on HGTV this year featuring Pittsburgh. Crews from My First Place filmed a North Hills couple last year as well. For about six weeks in April and May 2011, the show’s production crew tagged along with Joy and Tim Kerrigan as they explored different homes. Their episode, titled “Competing Against a Cash Bid" aired Feb. 9.

The Heartland Homes episode shot in Cranberry Township, featuring designers Alisha Gwen and Joe Berkowitz, is scheduled to be the season's premiere episode. It will air at 2:30 p.m. March 3.

The episode shot in Oakmont, featuring designers Christine Jones and Lizzie Bennett Farley, is scheduled to air March 31.

There will be an encore airing of each episode at 1:30 p.m. the Friday after the premiere.

“This is not like anything you have seen on HGTV before,” said Kevin Oakley, director of marketing for Heartland Homes. “This is not just about picking paint colors and moving in furniture. These designers are involved with the house from day one of construction and have complete freedom to change whatever they want, just like our homeowners do. Windows, walls, cabinets—it’s all up for grabs. In the end, all four homes we built have ended up being completely unique from any other house we have ever built.”

About five episodes of Showhouse Showdown already have aired on TV. Cranberry's episode was the eighth to be filmed and was expected to premiere in October. Due to competition during the Monday night television lineup late last year, HGTV postponed airing the series.
