Moon Community Access Television Announces 2012 Film Festival Winners

Winners were featured last weekend at the Fourth Film Festival.

Three film makers were chosen over a field of 43 independent film submissions during the MCA-TV Film Festival held last Saturday and Sunday. 

According to Alexis Sergeant, communications director, the submissions were from various genres including comedy, fantasy, animation, musical, dram, horror and post-apocalyptic. The films varied in length from full-length films and documentaries to shorts.

The Film Festival was created and is coordinated by MCA-TV’s Assistant Director, Ryan McAfee, to showcase the work of local filmmakers. This is the fourth festival in five years.

Sergeant said a five-judge panel was made up of two local professors from Robert Morris University as well as other local film buffs, each of whom evaluated the 43 films independently.

Films were rated on originality, acting/script, editing, technical, cinematography and use of time.

And the winners are.... 

1. When One Door Closes A Window Opens: produced by Andy Kelemen from Pittsburgh;

2. Lightweight: produced by Randy Kovitz and Deborah Hosking from Pittsburgh; and  

3. Coal Keeps the Lights On: produced by Adam Taylor (previous winner), graduate of University of Pittsburgh Film Studies Program.

McAfee and MCA-TV volunteer, Edward Leheny, introduced the winning films as well as a host of other selections.

The MCA-TV Film Festival and awards were sponsored by several local businesses including: , The Lerro Corporation, , , Dr. Marc J. Schneiderman, , Senior Men’s Club, and

MCA-TV is a community-based network of public access, educational, and governmental programming owned and operated by the Locally, MCA is shown on Comcast channel 14 and Verizon FiOs channel 35 reaching more than 20,000 households.
