EVENT: Moon Art Teacher Hosts Painting Night Out

A Moon Area School District art teacher said "Create a Canvas" classes make for a creative night out.

Kristin Teeple said it's an alternative to the typical night out—grab a paint brush and a drink, attend an art class.

Teeple, an elementary art teacher for the Moon Area School District, will host her first "Create a Canvas" class at Latitude 40 on Summit Park Drive.

Attendees can eat, drink and paint during the Feb. 5 evening art class.

"You could go for a girl's night out or as a unique Valentine's date," Teeple said. "It's kind of a trend right now. You go, eat, and maybe get a drink, and then create a painting that you can take home with you."

Teeple said the sessions are casual and open to adults and teens regardless of skill level or painting experience. The cost of attending is $35, which includes paints, brushes and a canvas. Attendees can order food and drinks from Latitude 40 while Teeple provides instruction.

"It's very laid back and just something to have fun with," Teeple said. "I'll go over the basics and help everyone get started with their painting.

Teeple, who has taught at Moon Area since 2004, said she is seeking locations for additional Create a Canvas classes.

"It's okay if you don't have talent—it's just for fun," she said.
