History Center and Fort Pitt Museum Honor Veterans with Free Admission

All U.S. veterans and current service men and women will receive free admission to the History Center and the Fort Pitt Museum on Veterans Day, Fri., Nov. 11.

Visitors can express their patriotism and learn about those who fought for our freedom as part of the History Center’s newest exhibition, Stars & Stripes: An American Story. The 7,000 square foot exhibit details the stories of the people behind the more than 200 year history of the American flag – our nation’s most enduring symbol.

The exhibit includes artifacts, images, and archival materials that help to show the importance of the flag all Americans.

Among the nearly 200 historic flags featured in the Stars & Stripes exhibit is a U.S. flag handmade by soldier Joseph E. Fennimore using a Nazi flag, a blue dress uniform, and salvaged red fabric while in Germany during WWII. The flag is one of several objects in the exhibit on loan from the Smithsonian Institution.

At the Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park, docents will provide hourly tours of the two-floor museum and explore the extensive military history of the region from the French & Indian War through the American Revolution and beyond.

Visitors can talk with a Continental Army soldier re-enactor about life at the Fort during the Revolutionary War and create special thank you cards which will be delivered to Pittsburgh-area veterans hospitals.

**This free admission offer extends to veterans, current service men and women, and ONE family member.
