Township Dedicates Moon Pond to Former Supervisor

Moon Pond will be officially renamed Nelson's Pond at tonight's Board of Supervisors meeting.

Moon officials tonight will dedicate Moon Pond to former township member Edwin Nelson.

Dana Kasler, director of Moon Township's Parks and Recreation department, said the pond will be officially renamed Nelson's Pond at tonight's board meeting. New signage is planned for the man-made pond in Moon Park

Kasler said the newly renamed pond is one of only three parks attractions named after a township resident.

"It's really to commemorate his 40-plus years of service to the community," Kasler said. "He's given tirelessly to the community. He has a big family, but he still makes time to give back. We consider him a family member here."

Nelson, who is on the Moon Parks and Recreation Board and on the Moon Township Republican Committee, previously was a township supervisor for more than a decade.

Kasler said the pond is one of Moon Park's most widely visited attractions.

"It's consistently one of our most popular facilities," Kasler said. "We have a ton of people who stop by and visit to come see the different wildlife in the area."
