Moon Military Community Remembers Those Who Have Served
Local members of the military observe Memorial Day by leading commemorative events at home and elsewhere.
On the eve of Memorial Day, local service members are preparing to lead commemorative events at the national and local level.
- On Sunday, several soldiers from the Army Reserve's 316th Expeditionary Sustainment Command of Moon were present in New York City when a Bronx street was named after a fallen solider.
- The base's public affairs office also reports that its color guard will participate today in a ceremony at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township. It also will send 100 soldiers to represent the 316th on Monday in the National Memorial Day parade in Washington, D.C. Soldiers from the 316th will also march on Monday in Sewickley's Memorial Day parade.
- Lieutenant Col. Tom Hess, of the 171st Air Refueling Wing in Hopewell, will speak at 11 a.m. today at .
- Coraopolis will hold its 81st Memorial Day parade at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign War and its ladies auxiliary, the parade will feature the marching band.
- Technical Sgt. Michael Hickey, a reservist from the 911th Airlift Wing, will lead a group of military volunteers in placing flags on the graves of veterans at the Allegheny Cemetery in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.
- 911th reservists will also participate in numerous flyovers throughout the region, according to the wing's public affairs office.
