Moon Gardeners Host Tour of Homes

Residents can tour some of Moon Township's most impeccable gardens this Saturday.

Ellen Northby said some gardens will be prim and manicured, while others will be plush and overflowing with perennials.

"People are always really interested to see what other people do with their yards," said Northby, an organizer for the Moon Township Garden Club's annual tour of gardens. "And most of the gardeners are thrilled to be asked (to join the tour)."

The garden club on Saturday will host its annual tour of homes, giving residents a glimpse of some of the community's best groomed gardens.

Those interested in taking the tour can come to the Moon Township Municipal Building on Beaver Grade Road between 9:30 a.m. and noon to purchase a ticket and map for the self-guided driving tour throughout Moon.

Seven home gardens will be featured, Northby said.

"All of the houses don't belong to garden club people," Northby said. "We have a mix of different homes. We're always looking for gardens—sometimes we'll just see one and ask (the homeowner) to take part."

Proceeds from the tour benefit local organizations, including the , and Montour Trail Association

Northby, whose own garden has been featured on past tours, said the sweltering temperatures in recent weeks have garnders putting extra efforts into their lawns, ensuring that they're up to snuff for the garden tour crowds.

"One of the ladies said she's watering three times a day," Northby said.

"It's so hot outside and all the gardeners want their yards to look perfect," she said "But we do the tour in rain or shine.
