Miss America Nina Davuluri is asking a York high school to reconsider its punishment for the student who asked her to prom.

Central York High School senior Patrick Farves, 18, asked Davuluri to accompany him to the dance while she was speaking at the school on Thursday.

"I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule," Davuluri said later in a statement on Miss America's Facebook page.

However, Central York had previously warned Farves not to ask Davuluri to prom, and so he received a three-day in-school suspension as punishment for doing so.

"I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision," Davuluri said.

No word yet on whether Central York administrators will change their mind about Farves' punishment.

I'm reading in the Emmaus edition...Patch is no longer local since AOL sold it. I think there's only one editor left in this area out of (at one time) double digits.

this poor kid is toast ... not even Miss America can save him. How much you want to bet the District throws the book at him HARD? How dare he not do what he was told. Big lesson here for us all: shhhh ... be still.

York's requirements for school officials must include IQs, common sense, and decency, only acceptable if below idiot level. So the kid asked Miss America. Big friggin' deal. So what? Punish him for that? What a bunch of pharisaic jerks apparently run York's school system.
