Get Out: Memorial Day Events and a Mutt Strut

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Sewickley Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our ideas to explore, and tell us about yours.

Find out what's happening in Robinson-Moonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. Friday at Riverfront Park on Chadwick Street in Sewickley.

Why Go: It's all about remembering those who have sacrificed it all to serve our country. So kick off the  holiday celebration with music and fireworks. Grab a blanket, pull up a chair and and reflect while listening to tunes from Ray Ryan’s New Orleans Riverside Band and the Ohio Valley Band. There will be a celebration of service with a fireworks display. Sewickley police will be on Route 65 at Walnut Street and Chestnut Street to assist people crossing 65.

2. FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

When/Where: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at .

Why Go: Take the family to the library for an after-hours movie night. Feel free to bring your pillow and blanket and meet some friends to watch "Gnomeo and Juliet." All ages are welcome; parents must accompany children.

3. HOW DOES YOUR GARDEN GROW? A FLOWER CRAFT EXTRAVAGANZA!

When/Where: 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Sewickley Public .

Why Go: You get to play with dirt and flowers while making some beautifully blooming crafts. This is a fun event for the whole family, and you'll even get to plant a few seeds to take home.

Pricing: There is a $2 material fee. Please register. Contact the children’s department at 412-741-0937 for more information.


4. BRAD PAISLEY

When/Where: 5 p.m. Saturday at Heinz Field, North Side.

Why Go: What else says summer like an outdoor country concert? Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker and Jerrod Niemann are special guests.

Pricing: Tickets start at $45. 


5. MUTT STRUT

When/Where: 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Hartwood Acres Concert Area, Hartwood Acres.

Why Go: Bring your four-legged friend for this 5K dog walk and party.

Pricing: Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Donations of food and treats are welcome to support Animal Friends.
