When/Where: 6-8 tonight at Fern Hollow Nature Center, Sewickley Heights.  

Why Go: Who doesn't love Italian food? Get some special friends together and join  for a  served family style in front of a fire. Dinner includes fresh, homemade pasta using eggs from local chickens and a slow simmered braciole over polenta. Appetizers, vegetables, salad, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages will complete the meal. This event is BYOB.

Why Go: Grab your partner and learn the jitterbug, hustle and triple time swing dance. If you don't have a partner, no worries. No partner is necessary.

Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival 

When/Where:  1:30-6:30 p.m. and fashion show 7:30 p.m. today, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with pajama party at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the off Route 19, Cranberry.

Why Go: Sweethearts who are crazy about knitting will feel right at home when thousands of knitting enthusiasts converge on this annual festival. The three-day event includes 59 vendors displaying a variety of wares, exhibits and knitting demonstrations, crochet, weaving, spinning and basketry. 

Admission: $15 at the door. Those older than 65 pay $5 noon-4 p.m. Sunday.

 

When/Where: 7 tonight at the Sonoma Ridge Clubhouse, 4000 Duckhorn Drive, Moon.

Why Go: Enjoy an evening of food, drinks and poker with your special someone while supporting a good cause. This Texas Hold 'em tournament, sponsored by the Moon Area Softball boosters, helps raise money for Moon area softball teams.

Admission: $85, which includes food and drinks.

 

Cat Show

When/Where: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Shoppes at Northway, Upper Level (formerly Northway Mall) 8000 McKnight Road, Ross Township.

Why Go: What better way to treat the cat lover in your life. The Cat Fancier’s Association cat show sponsored by Steel City Kitties, with have plenty of vendors selling cat-related items and an “Ask the Vet” table. Pedigreed cats and household pets will be judged for best cat.

Admission: $7 adults, $5 child, 5 and younger. Parking free.

 

When/Where: 6 p.m. Saturday at the Naked Grape, 515 Broad St., Sewickley.

Why Go: Enjoy five courses of a fabulous and romantic cuisine accompanied by a flight of four wines specially paired to the menu. It's everything you love about  dining back for this holiday.

Admission: $70 per person. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. 

 

Trunk Show at Orr’s

When/Where: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at , 532 Beaver St., Sewickley. 

Why Go: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the John Hardy Trunk Show will showcase many Hardy pieces from new collections. A large amount of the jewelry wouldn’t typically be in the store. Many pieces feature dragon motifs in honor of the Chinese Year of the Dragon.

Admission: Free.

 

When/Where: 5-6 p.m. Saturday at , Leetsdale. 

Why Go: For the Penquins lover, surprise your sweetheart with a meet and great with the Penguins defenseman while celebrating the grand re-opening of the renovated and expanded supermarket. Engelland will be signing autographs and taking pictures with fans.

Admission: Free.

 

When/Where: 8:30 a.m. Saturday at North Park, Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park.
 

Why Go: Proceeds benefit the  (RSG1) and RSG1 Brain Fund at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.Same day registration begins at 8 a.m. Saturday. Click here to register online. 

Admission: $20 per runner without a T-shirt and $30 with a long-sleeved technical T-shirt. Late registration is $40. 

When/Where: 5 p.m. Saturday at the , 259 Shafer Road, Moon. 

Why Go: Married couples are invited to this date night event, which will feature a catered meal, webcast with special music, a Christian comedian and guest speakers. 

Admission: $12 per couple and $20 per family.
