Woman Charged with Prostitution to Stand Trial
A woman charged with acting as a prostitute in Moon Township appears in Coraopolis District Court.
An Ohio woman charged with prostitution following a Moon Police sting has waived her right to a preliminary hearing.
Desiree Owens, 22, of Dayton, appeared Tuesday in Coraopolis District Court. She is charged with misdemeanor promoting prostitution and possessing instruments of crime. A felony charge of promoting prostitution was withdrawn.
The woman was arrested on Dec. 3 at the Motel 6 on Thorn Run Road after police said she agreed to meet with an undercover police officer to have sex in exchange for money, according to a criminal complaint.
Owens agreed to have sex with the officer for a total of $300, according to police.
The woman advertised escort services in the area on the classifieds website BackPages.com, police allege.
Police seized $100 cash, condoms and a cell phone from Owens.
A formal arraignment is scheduled for March 5.
