Robert Morris University professor Michael DiLaurio has penned, filmed and produced a feature-length documentary, titled La Mia Strada.

The film discusses the connection between ethnicity and family in modern-day Italian and Italian-American culture.

The university premiered the film on Jan. 31 in its Massey Theater. View the trailer in the media above.

From a statement on the documentary's release:

"It’s a discovery of how fragile the bonds are that connect a family from generation to generation, from country to country, even as they search for ways to adapt to an ever-changing world. Over a period of years, Prof. DiLauro has conducted dozens of interviews, explored historical sites, sifted through archaeological artifacts, dug through family photographs, and immersed himself in the music, poetry, and oral histories of the Abruzzo, Molise and Puglia regions. La Mia Strada links the ancient and contemporary history of families divided by an ocean, yet united by an undeniable genetic bond."

DiLaurio is a five-time Emmy Award-winner and director and producer of documentaries, television commercials and corporate productions.
