Tell Us: Where Is the Worst Intersection in Moon or Robinson?

Which local road, red light, or stop sign do you try to avoid?

This week, we’re asking readers to tell us, what is the worst intersection in Moon or Robinson?

Moon officials are preparing a plan to revamp the intersection of Montour Run and Beaver Grade roads. The intersection, which straddles both Robinson and Moon townships, becomes congested during commuting hours.

Marv Eicher, president of the Moon Board of Supervisors, told Patch that intersection improvements at the Thorn Run Interchange and the intersection at University Boulevard and Campus Drive, are among the township's goals for the 2013.

So, we want to know, are there other intersections where you would like to see improvements? Which intersection in either Moon or Robinson is the worst in your opinion and how would you fix it? Which intersection has the most traffic congestion and poses the most safety hazards?

The new round a bout in Moon by Ewing Road always slows drivers down. I don't know why it was built that way. Also the intersection near Diane Cleaners, Starbucks is weird and has a needlessly long light. It's like a four or five way intersection on Beaver Grade Road....

I agree on the round about in Moon. I think there are too many terrible interesections in Robinson to count or pick just one...

No doubt, montour run and beaver grade. It needs a light, right now...

The extremely busy intersection of Steubenville Pike (Route 60) and Beaver Grade Road (where the BP station and Holy Trinity Church are located) is in desperate need of an upgrade. 1). Vehicles turning left from Steubenville Pike onto Beaver Grade Road do not have adequate space to make the turn because of a lack of proper space and a low cement barrier designed to keep motorists in their lanes. The barrier, for now, should include a series of 3-foot tall reflective markers so motorists can see it in the dark. (The other day, I watched the motorist in front of me drive over the entire length of the barrier, shooting sparks out, as the car's undercarriage dragged along the barrier.) BP and Holy Trinity property can be taken by eminent domain in order to expand the "mouth" of the intersection. 2). Add more overhead lighting to the intersection. It's too dark, particularly during inclement weather. 3). The intersection is the site of numerous motor vehicle accidents, yet broken glass and other parts of the damaged vehicles are never properly removed from the roadway. That creates another hazard for motorists.

AGREED! On all points. The intersection at Church Hill Road needs to be expanded or something because it's dangerous if you're trying to make a left turn onto 60. Cars coming in the other direction sometimes don't swing out wide enough and you'll worry that they're going to clip your car. And the intersection by BP and Holy Trinity is notoriously dangerous...

I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands every time I drive through the intersection of Hassam Road and Coraopolis Heights near Rhema and Brooks Elementary in Moon. I'd love to know how many accidents occur there every year.

I have lived in the Rhema School-Pleasant View area my whole life. Every time I drive up Maple Street and try to cross to Hassam I have to hold my breath...and if it is at am or pm rush hour, it is impossible to make that trek across that extra-wide intersection without looking like a jerk!

I find the intersection of Sharon Road and Thorn Run Road to be very dangerous. During rush hour it is very hard to get out of Sharon and if someone needs to turn onto Snyder watch out! Many accidents have happened there.

I delivered pizza in Moon for over 5 years.. I know every road.. The Beaver Grade Road & McCormick Road intersection seems to need an overhaul.. And I agree with Rachel about the Sharon Road & Thorn Run Road intersection.. Also agree with the Coraopolis Heights and Hassam Rd./Maple St. Ext. Intersection..
