Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that Moon Area School Board authorized an Act 1 exception. This was incorrect. The board did not authorize such as exception. The article has been updated to reflect this. 

The Moon Area School District cannot advise residents of what impact newly released property assessment values will have on 2013 property taxes, according to a statement released by the district. 

The district said that it will not announce 2013 tax millage rate until June of 2013. 

"The district is bound by the restrictions of Act 1, which will require the district to calculate millage rates to remain revenue neutral following the assessment," according to the statement. 

Property assessment notices are expected in Moon-area communities by March 2. County property owners who wish to file an appeal of their assessment must do so by April 2. 

The district suggests that residents refer to information on the the county’s website.
