RMU Garners National Recognition for Outreach Work

Several volunteer programs at the university have been added to the national community service honor roll.

Robert Morris University's work with the Mooncrest Communtity Center has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.

The Moon-based university’s partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh and the Mooncrest Afterschool Program has been added to the honor roll—the highest federal recognition a university can receive for volunteer and service-learning work.

More than 30 students work as mentors and role models for elementary school-age children who live in the Mooncrest neighborhood and take part in the program.

RMU ‘s sport management program has also been added to the president’s honor roll for its work with the Special Olympics of Western Pennsylvania.

The Corporation for National and Community Service, the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Campus Compact and the American Council on Education administer the honor roll. They have recognized more than 700 colleges and universities for their social work.
