PennDOT: Parkway West Improvements on the Way

Millions will be spent upgrading the Parkway West in coming years.

Commuters beware: Construction delays may be more common on the Parkway West in the coming years.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will invest $60 million in repairs to Interstate 376 West, from Interstate 79 to the Fort Pitt tunnels, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports

Milling, repaving and bridge and shoulder rehabilitation are expected to take place as a part of the improvements, much of which will occur in 2014 and 2015.

From the newspaper:

"While modest safety improvements will be made at deficient interchanges, drivers shouldn't expect faster travel after the orange barrels are gone from what is one of the nation's most congested corridors, (sad Dan Cessna, executive director of PennDOT district 11)."

The Parkway West was named earlier this year as one of the nation's most congested traffic corridors
