OLSH President Expresses 'Unspeakable Sadness' Following Sandy Hook Shootings
The Dec. 14 school shooting in Connecticut claimed the lives of 20 school children and six faculty members.
Principal Tim Plocinik, of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School, released a statement today to school community members regarding the Dec. 14 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
"We're maintaining our ongoing safety plans and procedures, which is something that we've always kept at the top of our priority list," said school spokeswoman Jessica Cerchairo.
Plocinik's statement is below:
As you already know, a tragic event took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on Friday morning. Like many, I’m feeling an unspeakable sadness and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families involved in the tragedy that occurred in Connecticut. I’m sure that you feel the same way. It is times like these that we must rely heavily on our faith in God, and ask Him to provide comfort to all of those affected.
So often in times like these we want to do something to support those in need. This week you’ll have the opportunity to either bring in a store bought card or make a hand-made card that we will send to Sandy Hook Elementary School. This is a tangible way that we can let the school’s students, faculty and staff know that we will be keeping them in our prayers. Cards will be collected through Wednesday.
At this time I’d like to have a moment of silence to be followed by the “Our Father”:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
I’d also like you to know that should you need to talk about the events of last Friday I encourage you to go to our guidance department. You may also go to the chapel for prayer and reflection.
