Moon, OLSH Honor Coaches for Career Wins

Basketball coaches at Moon Area School District and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart have been recognized this month.

Don Eckerle, OLSH varsity girls basketball coach, is honored for his 150th career win at the school.

Student athletes at Moon Area High School and Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School this month honored coaches for their achievments on the court. 

Moon basketball coach Jeff Ackerman was recognized during the Tigers Jan. 6 home game against Mt. Lebanon for earning his 200th victory with the team. 

Under Ackerman, who began coaching at Moon in 2001, the Tigers have participated in 24 WPIAL playoff games, 24 PIAA playoff contests and captured three WPIAL championships, according to the school district.  

Don Eckerle, OLSH girls varsity basketball coach, celebrated his 150th victory with the team during a victory Monday at home against Laurel High School. Eckerle has coached at OLSH since 2003. 

OLSH has qualified for the WPIAL Class AA playoffs for seven consecutive years under Eckerle's leadership, earning two section championships and garnering at least one WPIAL Class AA playoff victory for six consecutive years, according to the school.
