No Construction Date Yet for Planned Moon Walmart
The national big-box retailer plans a Moon Township location off University Boulevard.
Officials from Walmart have resubmitted a highway occupancy application to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for its planned Moon Township store.
Moon Planning Director Adam McGurk said the Arkansas-based retailer resubmitted the application for the permit on Oct. 19.
PennDOT spokesman James Struzzi said "no timeline" is yet available for the store to receive the permit. Work cannot begin at the site until its highway occupancy permit is granted.
Walmart purchased property at the corner of Brodhead Road and University Boulevard in 2007, where it plans to build a 150,000-square foot store on the site of the former West Hills Shopping Center.
The store began the process of obtaining its PennDOT highway occupancy permit for the project in 2011.

Can we just build this already. The land is an eyesore and is not doing anyone any good being empty. Grant them the permit, build the darn store already, and generate some jobs and taxes for the Township.

you must be misinformed....they will NOT create jobs but destroy jobs and other businesses in Moon not to mention cause gridlock in an area that already has horrible traffic....if you want to shop at walmart, there is one about two miles away....we need mixed use development not a fricken superstore who screws their employees and continues the giant sucking sound of trade and jobs in our country with china

I agree with John! We don't need this in Moon and it will only hurt the area and cause traffic problems. This company screws their employees and imports way too much from third world countries, thus hurting jobs in THIS country. I will never shop there!

People who complain about importing from third world country obvioiusly have no idea how global business works. If you put up trade barriers, they will do the same for our products and services. Why should consumers pay higher price to protect domestic production - when did ever prove to be good for the economy. What we need to do is find ways to compete, not take our ball and go home. Protectionism doesn't allow for advancement. Lastly, just like any other smart business, Walmart runs its business the way its profitable. If you don't like it you know where the door is.
