State police in Moon charged a Westmoreland County man with depositing waste or other materials on the highway early Saturday after they said he ignored instructions to stop posting political campaign signs along Interstate 376 in Robinson.

Richard Schachte, 52, of New Kensington, also was charged with prohibition in specific places, according to court records. Troopers said they filed the charges after confronting Schachte at 6:55 a.m. Saturday on I-376 near the split with Interstate 79.

Troopers said they spotted Schachte posting campaign signs along the highway and warned him that it's illegal to do so. They said he failed to comply after a trooper told him to stop posting the signs and to remove the ones already posted.

State police would not identify the content of the signs or the candidates Schachte supported. Court records indicate the both cases are still active and pending.
