New Coraopolis Technical School Opens in January

Victory Tech will begin offering classes in January.

A new Coraopolis-based technical school opening in 2013 will help veterans transition into the civilian work force, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

The Victory Tech Learning School will begin offering classes in January, specializing in technology, math and engineering training, according to the newspaper.

The technical school is operated by Victory Media Inc., a Coraopolis-based marketing firm that focuses on military communities, according to the company's website

Victory Media has invested $600,000 in the new venture, the Trib reports.

Victory Tech's facilities are located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Mill Street, near the marketing company's current offices. Apprenticeships and 15-month programs will be among the school's offerings.

Christopher Hale, chairman of Victory Media, told the newspaper that the program is open to any student, but will be a good fit for veterans looking to re-enter the civilian job market.

From the article:

“(Veterans) have an unbelievable level of skill, but sometime not a great understanding of how to translate (those skills) to a civilian job,” Hale said.

This is the first I've heard of the school and am concerned if it is a for profit operation. Otherwise, I'm glad there's an initiative for veterans to whom we owe an immense debt of gratitude and support in their reentry into non military society.
