Moon Area Superintendent Milanovich Garners Leadership Award
The school district also approves a series of change orders for its newly completed middle school.
Moon Superintendent Donna Milanovich has been awarded the instructional leadership award from the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.
Milanovich received a $1,000 scholarship for the honor, which will be awarded to a 2012 Moon Area High School graduate pursuing a career in education. Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Zurchin announced the milestone earlier this week at the Moon Area School Board's monthly meeting.
Other items from the school board meeting:
The district's school board approved change orders related to its middle school renovation at an increased cost $24,566.65.
Brian Fulkerson, a project manager from Eckles Architecture, told board members that no demolition date has been set for the district's former middle school.
The building is now vacant after the opening of the newly renovated middle school.
"The intent is to make (the demolition) happen this fall," Fulkerson said.
Fulkerson said crews will likely tear down the building in portions, beginning with its east wing, in the coming months. The demolition has been pushed back by construction delays at the middle school, including the termination of work by former contracting firm Reginella Construction.
The board also approved the purchase of a Bobcat snowplow at a cost of $4,423.53.

More outrageous change orders approved! I thought that the yellow team was going to stop wasting taxpayers money on change orders! That's what all of their campaign literature said. Instead, this group has approved every single change order that they have seen! 100% approval rate, spending taxpayer's money like there is no end to it. And yet the yellow team criticized the prior board for change orders! They are nothing but hypocrites. What a joke the yellow team has been, along with their faithful sidekicks Sandy McCurdy and Jeff Bussard. Has there ever been a worse president than Sandy McCurdy? She still doesn't know how to run a meeting, and seems lost up on stage. Maybe she could pay attention if she didn't spend so much time whispering to her fellow yellow team member Mike Olszewski during the meetings.
