Moon Police: Woman Charged with Deceiving Hotel Staffers for Refund
Moon Township police blotter for Monday, Aug. 27.
An Aliquippa woman is charged with attempting to dupe Moon Township hotel employees into giving her cash refunds on hotel rooms.
Sharon M. Lepore, 40, told hotel employees at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Aug. 1 that a manager promised her a $124 refund, though the woman never stayed at the Thorn Run Road hotel, police said in a report.
Lepore told staffers she had been overcharged for her stay at the hotel, but there is no record of her renting a room, police said.
Police received a similar complaint from the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Cherrington Parkway. Police said Lepore approached the hotel's front desk and asked for a cash refund. Staff at the Marriott did not issue the refund, but they did make a copy of her driver's license.
Lepore is charged with theft by deception and criminal attempt. She is scheduled to face a preliminary hearing on Aug. 28.
