Moon Township's Historic Architectural Review Board is offering prize money for historic photographs of the community's Mooncrest neighborhood.
Moon's HARB board will offer a $100 prize for the best photo of the Mooncrest neighborhood taken prior to 1968. A $50 prize will be awarded to the second-place winner; a $25 prize will go to the third-place photograph.
The committee hopes to have the historic neighborhood, constructed in 1943, added to the National Register of Historic Places. Photos compiled will be used in the application for that effort.
Efforts are also underway to create a publication chronicling the neighborhood's history.
The committee will judge entries at its Jan. 9 meeting, according to the township's website.
Photographs must be submitted prior to 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 to the Moon Township Municipal Building. All photos will be scanned and returned to owners.
The township seeks photos that feature buildings, streetscapes and former residents.
The 42-acre, World War II-era neighborhood was built by the U.S. Department of Defense to house Neville Island shipyard workers.
