Faculty and staff from the Moon Area School District came together yesterday for a district-wide orientation for the upcoming school year.

District administrators discussed their vision and goals for the new academic year, which gets under way for students Sept. 6. The annual event took place during a staff in-service day.

Teachers took part in team building exercises and learned about new, district-wide initiatives.

Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Zurchin discussed her background at Pittsburgh's Schaeffer Elementary, where as principal of the school she saw test scores increase and disciplinary school suspensions decrease as a result of positive reinforcement for students.

"It's about looking for the good in everything," Zurchin told staff members at the event.
